Cinnamon Rolls

$25.00

History Lesson: This is the first thing Dena started baking because Rob went on and on about how a certain mall cinnamon roll is so yummy and Dena came back with “I can do better”.

After about 26 tries, she did! This is another house favorite (common theme) and one time Rob brought these to work and the first question he got was “How can I buy a pan of these!?!?”.

Price is for a pan and the quantity of rolls depends on whether you want big, huge yummy rolls (about 6 per pan) or little tiny baby rolls (about 12 per pan)

Description

Cinnamon rolls are a beloved sweet pastry known for their soft, doughy texture, rich cinnamon flavor, and sweet glaze or frosting. Originating from Sweden (where they are known as “kanelbullar”), these rolls have become a popular treat in many countries, especially in the United States.

Key Characteristics

  1. Texture:
    • Dough: The base dough is typically a yeast-leavened dough that is soft and fluffy when baked.
    • Filling: The interior is filled with a mixture of butter, cinnamon, and sugar, which melts and caramelizes during baking, creating a gooey, flavorful center.
  2. Flavor:
    • Cinnamon and Sugar: The defining flavor comes from the cinnamon-sugar mixture spread on the dough before rolling.
    • Frosting/Glaze: After baking, cinnamon rolls are often topped with a sweet glaze made from powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla, or a cream cheese frosting, adding extra sweetness and a creamy texture.
  3. Appearance:
    • Spiral Shape: Cinnamon rolls are known for their distinctive spiral shape, achieved by rolling up the dough with the filling inside and then slicing it into individual rolls.
    • Golden Brown: They are baked until the tops are golden brown, with the filling bubbling up around the edges.

Variations

Cinnamon rolls can vary widely based on regional preferences and individual recipes:

  • Sticky Buns: A variation where the rolls are baked with a caramel sauce and sometimes nuts at the bottom of the pan, which becomes a sticky topping when the rolls are inverted after baking.
  • Nut Toppings: Some versions include chopped nuts, such as pecans or walnuts, either in the filling or sprinkled on top.
  • Fruit Additions: Occasionally, raisins or other dried fruits are added to the filling for extra flavor and texture.

Cinnamon rolls are loved for their comforting, homey flavor and the delightful contrast between their tender, doughy layers and the sweet, spiced filling. Whether enjoyed fresh out of the oven or as a special treat during celebrations, they remain a favorite for their irresistible combination of warmth, sweetness, and spice.
